That one dive supervisor's comment about my fins still bugs me
Back in 2019, I was doing harbor inspection work in Norfolk, Virginia, and this old supervisor, must've been diving since the 80s, watched me kick through a silt patch and just said, 'you're working too hard down there.' He spent the next ten minutes showing me how to use slow, tiny scissor kicks near the bottom instead of the big frog kicks I always used. I didn't think much of it then, but now I see it every time I'm on a muddy wreck or a pipeline job. I swear I burn maybe 25 percent less gas on a 90 minute dive since I changed my technique. Anyone else have a random comment from a crew member that stuck with you way longer than it should have?

Honestly, that "you're working too hard down there" comment is such a classic older diver move, but the real lesson is how it changes your breathing without you noticing. When I switched to slower kicks, I found myself staying calmer in low vis, which probably did more for my gas than the fin technique itself. It's funny how a throwaway line can quietly rewire your whole dive brain.
