That moment my lift bag became a rocket at 60 feet off Galveston

Last Tuesday I was running a pipeline inspection near Galveston and my primary lift bag decided to self-inflate on the descent. One second I'm checking my gauge, next thing I know I'm getting dragged upward faster than I could dump air from my wing. I grabbed the dump valve on the bag but the cord had tangled around my camera housing, so I had to slice the strap with my knife and watch $80 worth of gear shoot to the surface like a torpedo. Boat captain said it breached about 30 yards off the bow and nearly hit a pelican. Has anyone else had a bag fail like that, or am I just cursed with the one in a hundred?
