Paid $400 for a used Kirby Morgan band mask, the old hoses nearly ruined my dive

Picked up a secondhand Kirby Morgan 17 band mask from a salvage outfit in Galveston for $400. Thought I was getting a steal, but the hoses looked fine on the outside and were shot inside. First real job in 60 feet, I got a face full of water when a hose split mid-weld. Swapped in new hoses for another $120 and now it works great, but I should have checked the inner lining first. Anyone else buy used gear that needed more work than the price tag suggested?

Learned that lesson with a used regulator, cost me double by the time I fixed it.
