Used to bag comics with the flaps facing out until a guy at a convention in Cleveland told me I was doing it wrong
I've been collecting floppies for about 15 years and always put the bags on with the flap facing the front cover. Some older collector at a booth in the Cleveland Comic Con last October pointed out that dust can still get in the top crease that way. He showed me his long boxes where every flap faced the back cover with the tape on the bottom edge instead. Now I rebagged my entire 400 issue run of X-Men over two weekends. Has anyone else seen damage from bagging a certain way or am I just paranoid about nothing?

You tape the flap to the bottom of the bag? I always tape mine to the back cover, but I leave the flap facing the back too. I mean, the tape is just to keep the bag closed, not to seal out dust completely. If dust is getting in through that top fold, doesn't that mean your bag is too short or not folded tight enough? I've been bagging with the flap on the back for about ten years and my old Valiant issues still look fine.

Is this really something we need to worry about that much? I mean, we're just talking about a little tape and some comic books, not exactly storing the Declaration of Independence in there.
