Paid $85 for a 'rare' 1990s issue, turned out to be a reprint
Last month at the Columbus comic expo I grabbed what I thought was a first printing of Uncanny X-Men 266 from a dealer with a good table setup. Got home and the paper quality felt off, then I checked the back cover and saw the 1993 reprint mark plain as day. The guy refunded me after I emailed him, but I still wasted gas money and a whole Saturday afternoon. Anyone else get burned by reprints hiding in dollar bins or dealer tables?

Man that sucks, especially since you said "dealer with a good table setup" because thats always the trap. I read somewhere that some of those 1993 reprints had brighter colors on the cover but the paper was thinner and you could kinda see through it if you held it up to light. I got hit with a similar thing a few years back with an old Spawn issue, thought I was getting a bargain but it had that same reprint mark hidden on the spine. At least you got your money back though, some sellers would've ghosted you after that. I've started bringing a cheap jeweler's loupe to cons now, takes two seconds to check the back cover before I hand over cash.
