My local shop's owner spent 20 minutes explaining why I was reading comics wrong
Walked into my usual shop in Portland last Thursday just to grab the new issue, and the owner, Doug, asked what I was reading. I said I was just following the big events, skipping the filler. He laughed and told me I was treating comics like homework. He pulled a random 1987 issue of something off the shelf and said the best stories are the ones nobody puts on a reading list. I sat there while he showed me how a single panel could carry a whole character's arc if you stop rushing. It hit different because he was right. I've been collecting for like 12 years and never once slowed down to enjoy the art or the small moments. Anybody else ever had a shop owner or fellow fan flip your approach like that?

Started doing exactly that after a buddy dared me to read a whole run of a series I usually skipped. Picked up some old Daredevil issues nobody talks about. There's this one silent page where Matt's just sitting in the rain, and you get his whole mood without a single word bubble. Felt like I was seeing the art for the first time. Now I grab random back issues all the time, no plan or checklist. Way more fun than chasing the next big crossover.
