Just realized a weird thing about comic book fans who only read trades
So I was at a comic shop in Portland last weekend and overheard two guys arguing about whether single issues still matter. One guy pulls out his phone and shows the other guy that a copy of Batman #251 sold for over $2,000 on eBay back in 2023 while the trade paperback with the same story goes for like 15 bucks. That got me thinking about how most fans I know now just wait for the collected edition and never touch a floppy. I did some digging and found out single issue sales for the big two dropped by more than half since 2015 while trade sales kept growing. It makes sense because trades are cheaper and sit on a shelf better, but there is something about reading it month by month that hits different. Is it just me or do other people feel like something gets lost when you binge a whole run in one sitting instead of waiting 30 days between issues?
