I was scooping my beans with the grinder's own lid for 3 years until a friend in Tulsa pointed it out
I always used the little lid that came on top of my burr grinder to scoop beans out of the bag, never thought twice about it. Last month my buddy was over, poured himself a cup, and asked why the beans tasted flat and stale. He said the lid traps old oils and fine dust from every batch, and by scooping with it I was basically seasoning each new bag with yesterday's coffee. I weighed out 18 grams on a cheap scale the next morning instead, and the same beans tasted way brighter. Now I just dump straight from the bag into the hopper. Anyone else find out their 'harmless' habit was messing with flavor?
