Spent 6 hours chasing a phantom offset error, it was a worn keyway
Running a Haas VF-2 last Thursday and every part came out 0.004 off in X. Checked work offsets, re-zeroed the tool, even called the night shift guy to ask if he changed anything. Was just about to rip the servo apart when my lead hand said 'hey, when's the last time you looked at the keyway on the spindle?' Sure enough, the key was worn down and the tool holder was rocking just enough. 20 bucks and 15 minutes to fix after 6 hours of my life gone. Anyone else had a tiny mechanical thing cost them a whole shift?
