Showerthought: my first crash on the Haas was a typo in the G54 Z offset, not the program
Back in March I was running a batch of 6061 fixture plates on the VF2 at our shop in Akron and everything was cutting fine all morning. Right before lunch I fat-fingered the work offset and typed .25 instead of -.025, so the first rapid plunge buried a 1/2 inch end mill about a quarter inch into the vise jaw. Sounded like a gunshot and I just stood there with my hand on the feed hold for what felt like ten seconds. The tool was junk and the jaw had a nice gouge, but the spindle was fine, and now I check offsets twice before every cycle start. How many of you guys have a habit that catches these before the green button?
