Last Tuesday I caught a 3 foot chip snake trying to escape my Haas VF-2
It wrapped around the auger like a steel rope and when I pulled it out the end shot across the shop and nearly hit our QC guy in the face. Anyone else ever have a chip bird's nest launch something crazy?

Keep a longer bar or rod nearby to snap those nests before they get that bad. I started doing that after a similar near miss, and it saves a lot of headaches. Have you tried poking at them every few cycles?

Geez, that's terrifying! A three foot chip snake is bad enough, but having it whip across the shop like a steel cable is just insane. I can't believe it almost took your QC guy's head off, that would have been a serious injury. I've seen nests wrap tight around an auger before, but none of them ever turned into a projectile like that. Thank goodness nobody got hurt, because that sounds like it could have broken a bone or worse.
