DAE see guys skip the warm up cycle on the Okuma and wonder why their first part is scrap?
I run a Genos L3000 in my garage and the spindle needs a good 15 minutes of warm up before I trust a tolerance under 0.001. Two guys I know scrapped a whole batch of 4140 parts last Tuesday because they hit cycle start cold and the thermal growth threw off the first 20 pieces. If you're chasing tenths on a lathe, let it spin before you cut. Anyone else see this get ignored or is it just my area?
Thermal growth is a real thing but 20 parts sounds off. After the first couple pieces the machine settles into a steady temp and the rest should hold fine.
