Look, I get why people march. I really do. But 3 years ago I started showing up to my city's energy board meetings, and those 90 minute rooms full of bored people in bad chairs have done more for actual emissions here than any sign I've ever held.
Two months back my cousin asked me to drive up to Denver for a big rally. I said no and went to a hearing on a solar permit backlog instead. 14 people showed up to that hearing. We got the backlog cut from 8 months to 6. Boring as hell but that is 300 some roofs that can get panels on them a whole season sooner.
My aunt told me at Thanksgiving that I'm "part of the problem" for not being there. I love her but she has never once sat through a zoning meeting where a guy yells about property values for 20 minutes.
I'm not saying marches are useless. I'm saying one Tuesday night in a stuffy room can beat 10,000 people in a park. Has anyone else picked the boring local route over the big public one? Did your people give you a hard time about it too?
