Tried a round wire brush after 9 seasons of running flat wire, and I'm not going back
Ran flat wire brushes on every flue for close to 9 seasons because that's what the old guy who showed me the trade in Fort Wayne used, and I figured if it worked for him it worked. Last month I picked up a round poly brush to try on a stubborn creosote job and the difference knocked me over. The round brush follows the flue walls instead of skipping off the high spots, and I was getting glaze off in two passes that used to take me four or five with the flat. It also doesn't beat up the clay tile liners half as bad, which matters on these older houses around here. I still keep the flat one in the truck for square flues because round just doesn't corner right, so it's not a clean swap everywhere. But for the round liners I'm reaching for the round brush nine times out of ten now. Curious what you all run, and if anyone has tried the softer poly vs the stiff nylon on really glazed up stuff?
