Stainless liner vs pour-in mix on a 1940s brick flue, and I went stainless
Got called out to a house near Akron last month where the homeowner wanted the cheap pour-in stuff to save about $900. I pushed stainless because that old brick had two cracked tiles and pour-in just hides that mess instead of fixing it. Anyone else refuse the pour-in jobs when the flue is already falling apart?
Ran into the same thing last spring, old flue was cracked in three spots and the homeowner still wanted pour-in. Told him straight up I would not touch it unless we did stainless, and he ended up thanking me later when the sweep found more damage.
