Rant: My cousin in Denver called our work 'just pushing a brush up and down' and it really got under my skin.
He said it over Thanksgiving dinner, and it made me realize how many people have no clue about creosote grades, proper inspection, or the safety codes we follow, so how do you guys explain the real skill involved to friends and family?

That comment would have set me off too. My brother-in-law said something similar last year, calling it a dirty summer job. He shut up pretty quick when I explained how we check for hidden cracks that can burn a house down. People see the soot and miss the whole safety inspection part. They don't get that a bad job means carbon monoxide or a chimney fire. Now he asks questions instead of making jokes.

My neighbor's house fire started from a cracked flue liner last winter.
