Old shop in Columbus made me miss the rope and weight method
Was doing a reline job downtown last week and the homeowner had this old storefront that still had the original clay liner setup. The guy who built it clearly used the old rope and weight system to drop the brushes down, you could see the wear marks on the crown. Made me think about how everything's rotary now, power sweepers, cameras, the whole deal. Nothing wrong with progress but there's something about reading the flue by feel that you just don't get with a screen. Has anyone else run into a chimney that made you wish you had the old gear on hand?

You ever tried pulling 60 feet of rope through a clay liner on a windy day? Cause I have, and my back still remembers it. The rotary gear might be less romantic but it gets the job done in half the time and without me hanging over the crown like a human crane. I get the feel thing, but I'd rather trust a camera that shows me the actual cracks than guess based on some worn spots.
