The 15-minute banh mi hunt that took 2 hours

I swear I remembered a vietnamese spot near the bus depot in Portland that had $4 sandwiches, but it closed and I wandered around for 2 hours before finding another place that charged $6.50. Has anyone else lost a go-to cheap spot and had trouble locating a replacement?

The one near the bus depot was probably Pho Saigon on 4th, they closed back in 2021 I think. That $4 price tag is stuck in my head too, nothing else comes close now. I found a decent place over on Powell that does a $5.50 version, but it's a 25 minute walk from where you were looking. Maybe try the food cart pod on 10th and Morrison, they have a banh mi cart that's around $5 but they sell out by 1pm most days.
