PSA: The '2 for $5' deal at my local bodega actually costs $6.50 after tax and a hidden fee
I grabbed two breakfast sandwiches at Rivera's Market on 5th Street in Camden last Tuesday because the sign said 2 for $5. When the guy rang me up, the total came to $6.50, and I asked why. He pointed to a tiny sticker near the register that said 'cash discount only, card adds 30 cents per item' and then tax on top. So that cheap breakfast run cost me almost 30 percent more than the sign promised, and I only noticed because I checked the receipt in my car. Has anyone else run into these card fees at small spots, and do you just carry cash now?
