Tried the rice bag trick on my dead laptop for 2 days, then tried a $6 heat gun and I feel like a clown

Rice bag never made sense to me tbh. It's for moisture, not heat, so if your board actually has a cold solder joint or a dead connection, dry rice isn't gonna fix anything. Heat gun reflows that stuff, that's why it works. Wish people would stop passing around the rice thing like it's some magic cure.
