PSA: Paid $75 for a "diagnostic" at a shop in Mesa, it was just a ram stick that needed to be reseated
My old desktop kept booting to a black screen back in March so I panicked and dropped it off at a place on Main Street. They charged me $75 to "diagnose the motherboard" and told me I needed a new one for $200. I got it home, opened the case, pulled both RAM sticks out, wiped the contacts with a pencil eraser, and stuck them back in. Booted right up and has been fine for 4 months now. Why do so many shops jump straight to "you need new parts" before they even reseat a connector?
