Can we talk about thermal paste on old CPUs?
Pulled apart a 2012 Dell OptiPlex last night and the paste was basically rock dust, no wonder it was hitting 95C. Scraped it off with an old gift card and used a $6 tube of Arctic MX-4, temp dropped to 61C under load. Anyone else skip the repair shop and just repaste their old office castoffs?

Rock dust" is exactly the right way to put it. Tbh I pulled apart an old HP from 2011 last month and the paste looked like someone had baked a thin layer of sand onto the chip. I'm honestly amazed those old CPUs survive as long as they do with that stuff on there. And yeah, $6 of Arctic MX-4 is the best money you'll spend all year, I've repasted like four old office boxes and every single one dropped at least 20 degrees. Shit's basically magic.
