Had a talk with a cabinet customer that made me rethink how I bid jobs

I was measuring a kitchen remodel last week and the homeowner asked me why my labor rate was almost double what her neighbor paid some guy off Craigslist. I started explaining material grades and joinery methods but she cut me off and said she didn't care about that stuff, she just wanted cabinets that would last 20 years. That hit different because she was right. I realized I've been talking about dovetails and plywood thickness when customers just want to know if their drawers will still slide in 2030. So I changed my whole bid approach. Now I write a short paragraph about lifespan and warranty instead of listing construction details. Has anyone else had to simplify their pitch just to get people to understand the value?

You ever notice how pretty much everything is sold the same way now? Like car ads don't talk about engines anymore they just show a family being happy on a road trip. People just want to know if it'll work and not break.
