Spent 11 hours building a resume for a job I could have gotten with a handshake
So I applied to a small plumbing shop on the north side of town and the owner said "just bring me something that shows what you can do." I took that way too seriously. I built a 3 page resume with a cover letter, printed it on cardstock at the library for $4.50, and even made a little laminated card with my license number on it. He looked at it for maybe 8 seconds, said "you got a van and a torch?" and hired me on the spot. I asked him later if he ever reads the resumes and he said no, he just checks if people show up on time. So how much of the resume stuff actually matters for trade jobs, or am I the only one who went overboard like this?
