I dropped $800 on a 'career coach' who just told me to update my LinkedIn
I paid for a six-session package with someone who called themselves an expert in tech job searches. All they did was read my resume back to me and say to add more keywords. I feel like I just paid for a very expensive mirror. Has anyone actually found a coach who gave real advice, not just obvious stuff?

Did you ever figure out what exactly they were supposed to be doing in those six sessions? I had the same thing happen with a guy who was supposed to help me with public speaking. He just kept telling me to slow down and breathe, which is the first thing anyone tells you. After three meetings I realized I could have watched a YouTube video for free. The worst part is you feel dumb for handing over the money in the first place. These people know how to sound like experts until you actually need them to deliver something real.

That "very expensive mirror" line is way too real. I had a similar thing happen with a writing coach years ago, just kept telling me to "write what you know" which is the most useless advice ever. Makes me think @leo238 is right to question what they even did for six whole meetings. Sometimes you pay for the idea of help more than the help itself.
