Why does nobody talk about using a cheap windshield sun shade as a tent floor saver?

I tried it last summer after ruining a tent floor on sharp rocks, and the $5 reflective shade actually stopped punctures and kept the floor cooler, but now I'm wondering if it traps moisture underneath has anyone else tested this trick or am I just asking for mold?

Actually the reflective side should face UP to reflect heat back at the tent, not trap moisture underneath.

Oh man, I feel you on that ruined tent floor... it's such a bummer when you finally set up camp and realize you've got a puncture. I've been using a cheap reflective sun shade under my tent for two seasons now, and I was worried about moisture too. I actually started lifting the edges of the shade up a few inches off the ground during the day to let air flow underneath, and that seemed to help a lot. Also, I always make sure to pull the shade out and let it dry completely before packing it away, just like you would with a footprint. No mold issues yet, but I'm in a pretty dry area so your mileage might vary.
