Thought the toner probe was a rookie crutch until a guy in Dayton showed me his method
I always figured real installers just knew which line was which or traced it by hand, so I never bothered carrying a probe. Then last month I was on a job in Dayton with a tech named Marcus who toned out 14 runs in a crowded panel in about 20 minutes while I was still guessing at the second one. He said the trick is just clipping the tone to the pair and walking slow at the far end, and honestly it cut my trouble calls way down. Anyone else keep a probe on their belt, or do you only pull it out for the messy ones?
