Zip tied every cord behind my desk tight as a drum and my monitor started flickering 2 days later
I went full neat freak on my desk setup and cinched every single cable with zip ties pulled so tight you could pluck them like a guitar string. Felt amazing for about 48 hours. Then my monitor started flickering, my mouse would freeze for a second here and there, and my USB drive kept dropping out mid transfer. I spent 3 evenings swapping cables and reinstalling drivers before my cousin, who does low voltage work in Columbus, asked me one question: did you tie the power and data lines together in a bundle? Turns out I had wrapped my monitor's power cord and its display cable in the same tight loop with the USB stuff, and the power line was bleeding noise into everything near it. Loosened the ties, gave the power cord its own path along the desk leg, and every problem went away by that night. Lesson is to never cinch data and power cables into one tight snake, and also never pull zip ties fully tight because you can crush the wires inside. Now I use velcro straps with a finger width of slack. Did I just get lucky, or has anyone else cooked their own signal by over tidying?
