Serious question, did a $9 tester save my whole desk setup or did I just get lucky?
About 2 months ago I posted a pic of my setup and one commenter pointed out that daisy chaining 7 devices into one power strip was a fire waiting to happen, not just ugly. I brushed it off at first but then I actually counted the load and my monitor, PC, speakers, and two chargers were pulling close to 1,400 watts on a strip rated for 1,200. I grabbed a $9 outlet tester and a $15 watt meter from the hardware store on 5th and yeah, the strip was warm to the touch after a long session. What changed for me was splitting everything into two strips on separate wall outlets and running a 6 foot velcro wrap so nothing crosses behind the tower. The cable mess got way easier to fix once I stopped shoving it all into one spot too. Curious what wattage you all are actually pulling before you call a strip safe?
