PSA: my cat chewed through my monitor cable and I fixed it with a $2 part from the hardware store

Last Tuesday my cat Ollie bit straight through the power cord on my second monitor, and I was about to drop $40 on a replacement until my neighbor said to just splice it. I cut the chewed part out, twisted the wires back together, and wrapped each one with heat shrink tubing I had in a drawer, then taped the whole joint so he can't get at it again. Has anyone else had a pet destroy a cable, and did splicing actually hold up for you or did it die a week later?
