My 4K monitor sat at 30Hz for 6 months until a random Reddit comment fixed it
I moved into a new apartment in Austin back in March and hooked up my new monitor to my laptop. Everything looked fine, but scrolling felt weird and videos seemed choppy. I figured it was just my old GPU finally dying, so I spent $60 on a new HDMI cable and even messed with my power settings. Last Sunday I finally googled the exact monitor model and found a thread where someone said to check the display adapter properties. Turns out Windows had it set to 30Hz this whole time because of the cable I was using. One dropdown change to 60Hz and it was like a whole new screen. Has anyone else ever had Windows silently botch their refresh rate like that?
