I finally tackled the nest behind my desk last Tuesday and found a fire hazard I ignored for 8 months
Last Tuesday I unplugged everything behind my desk in my Chicago apartment and counted 11 cords tangled around one power strip screwed to the underside of the table. One of them was a lamp cord I had run under the rug 8 months ago, and the insulation was already worn down to bare wire from my chair rolling over it. I zip tied the whole mess to a $4 cable raceway from the hardware store and mounted the strip to the wall instead of the table, and now I can actually see the floor. My advice is skip the pretty stuff and just get the wires off the floor and away from anything that rolls or heats up. What is the worst hidden cable disaster you have found only after pulling furniture apart?
