Old timer told me to stop sanding plywood edges, I ignored him for a decade
Guy named Ed who retired from a shop in Grand Rapids kept saying I was wasting hours on end grain filler. I blew him off until last fall when a client ran their hand along a shelf and pointed out the fuzz. He was right, a sharp plane and a light pass with 220 does it in minutes, my only regret is the 10 years of extra sanding.

Maple plywood fuzzes way worse than oak, so it depends.
