Sump pump died right after we closed on our first place
We closed on a 1950s bungalow in Des Moines last Tuesday and the basement flooded 3 days later because the sump pump gave out. The inspector said it was fine but the motor was rusted through inside. I ended up paying $280 for a new one plus a backup battery unit, anyone else get blindsided by a surprise repair within the first week of owning?

Yeah that stinks... first week is brutal for surprises like that. Rusted through motor means it was old and the inspector probably just saw it turn on and checked the box. Backup battery unit is smart though, at least you won't be crying in the basement at 2am next time.
