My realtor told me to skip the home inspection and I almost bought a money pit

My cousin's friend is a realtor and he kept saying inspections are a waste in this market. He said I could use the $500 towards closing costs instead. I went against his advice and paid for one anyway. They found termite damage in the basement joists and a roof that needed replacing within 2 years. Anyone else had a realtor push them to skip something that saved them money in the long run?

I get what you're saying about the realtor maybe losing his cool, but honestly I saw it different. The guy stayed pretty calm the whole time, which surprised me since the inspection found some serious stuff. He didn't raise his voice or get defensive, he just sat there listening and taking notes like it was any other Tuesday. I think if he had freaked out, that would've been a huge red flag for us. Instead he asked good questions and didn't try to downplay any of the issues, which actually made me trust him more.
