Inspected a house where the previous owner had painted over black mold

I was looking at a place in Portland that seemed perfect until I popped open a basement closet. The paint was bubbling in one corner and when I peeled it back, there was a whole patch of black mold behind it. The inspector said the owner must have just slapped Kilz over it before listing. Anyone else found hidden stuff like this behind walls?

Oh man, that's rough. I've got a similar story except I was the dummy who painted over mold in my own bathroom as a college kid. I thought I was being clever with some cheap primer and a fresh coat of white paint, but three months later that stuff was pushing through like it was auditioning for a horror movie. Ended up having to rip out half the drywall and treat the studs, which was a real wake up call about trying to hide problems instead of fixing them right. Did you check the ventilation in that basement closet?
