The stainless kettle I babied for 8 years finally gave out
My $90 electric kettle from 2016 died last Tuesday, heating element just quit mid-boil. I always hand-washed it and descaled monthly, but a cheap $25 stovetop whistler my neighbor lent me has outlasted two weeks of daily use without any fuss. Anyone else sworn by an appliance for years and then switched to the boring manual version?

Ha, I did the exact same thing with a fancy French press I babied for years, switched to a plain $8 plastic one and honestly it makes better coffee. Sometimes the boring stuff just knows how to get the job done.
