Vent: My $40 power bank fried my phone and I still prefer it over the cheap one

Had a talk with my buddy Ray after my Anker clone killed my Pixel last Tuesday. He said the 'junk' one he got for 12 bucks never even sparked, so maybe reliability is about luck not price. But that thing charges everything in one go on a camping trip, and Ray's can't even keep his earbuds alive overnight. Has anyone else had a pricey brick fail while the dollar store one keeps chugging?
