The airport charging kiosk at gate B12 in Phoenix fried my 100W cable in 20 minutes
Was at Sky Harbor waiting on a delayed flight to Denver. Plugged my laptop cable into one of those free charging stations by the seats. The cable got hot fast. I pulled it out and the plastic near the connector was soft and smelled like burnt toast. The station had no wattage label anywhere and the USB ports were loose. I looked at the other 4 ports and 2 of them had little brown marks around them. If you see a charging kiosk with no label and wobbly ports, just walk to a different gate. Anyone else run into one of these and know if there is a way to report them to the airport?
Did you happen to get a photo of the kiosk or the outlet? That helps a lot when you file a report with the airport, they usually want the exact gate and a pic of the damage. Sky Harbor has a form on their site for maintenance issues, but calling the airline desk right there at B12 is faster since they can flag it same day. Those loose ports are the real problem, a wobbly connection arcs and that heat builds up way faster than a bad cable ever would.
