Braided cables vs cheap rubber ones, the difference is wild

I bought a 6 pack of those dollar store rubber cables for my desk in Austin and went through 3 in a month, then grabbed one braided cable for $15 and it's been going strong for 6 weeks now. Has anyone else noticed the cheap ones only fail at the connector, or is it just my luck?
