Hit $2,300 in water damage after my 4th attempt to fix the shower valve myself
So last Tuesday I finally counted up what my DIY shower valve fix has cost me and it was $2,300 total. That number is the point where I should have just called a plumber on day one and saved myself. Here is how it stacked up: $150 for the first valve cartridge I guessed wrong on, $400 when the second attempt leaked into the hall closet, then $1,750 when the third try let go for real and soaked the downstairs ceiling in two rooms. The thing that makes me mad is the original problem was a slow drip, and a plumber quoted me $280 to do it right the first time. Please just get the quote before you start pulling stuff apart. Has anyone else kept going way past the point where you should have given up?
