The $18 ruler that exposed my whole indexing flaw

I was setting up my August spread last week when I noticed my page numbers were all off by three, and tracing it back I realized I'd been counting the index pages in my totals for 8 months straight. A friend looked over my shoulder and asked why July's log started on page 44 when my index said 41, and that's when it hit me that my 'system' was just memorized guesswork. Has anyone else had that gut-drop moment where a simple number check makes you redo everything from January?

Same thing happened to me last year with my BuJo, i had to flip through every single page and renumber like 90 pages. Now I keep a little sticky note on the inside cover with the actual page count and the index gets updated first every single time I add a page. It's annoying but it beats doing a whole redo in August.
