Took me 11 days to figure out the overnight bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai was cheaper than the train
Last month I was trying to get from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai on a tight budget and I kept reading that the train was the cheap way to go. The sleeper train tickets were running about 800 to 900 baht and I almost booked one, but something felt off so I dug into bus options instead. Turns out the overnight VIP buses leave from Mo Chit station for around 500 baht and include a blanket, a snack, and a reclining seat. The part that took forever was figuring out which company was legit, because there are dozens of reviews saying some buses break down or drop you at the wrong station. I cross checked about 15 different forums and blogs before I found a company people actually agreed on. The whole search ate up 11 days of my trip planning, mostly because every site had different prices listed. If I had just walked up to Mo Chit and asked at the counter I probably would have sorted it in an hour. Anyone else run into this where online research for a cheap route takes way longer than just showing up and asking?
