Rant: I was under my buddy's '91 Civic in his wet driveway when the jack stand shifted.
Now I won't even THINK about working on a car without putting the wheels I took off under the frame as a backup, just in case.

Ever think that extra step was overkill? I used to skip it until a close call like yours, and now I get why @troyjackson mentioned that "poor man's safety stand" name. It's just smart, not cheap.
