My sister walked in and said my gallery wall looked like a yard sale, so I fixed it for $12
I had 14 frames on one wall in my hallway and I honestly thought it looked great until my sister came over for my birthday in March and just said flat out "this looks like a yard sale threw up on your wall." It stung but she was right, I had wedding photos next to a random print of a lemon next to my kid's preschool art and nothing went together at all. So I pulled everything down and started over with one rule, only black or wood frames and only 6 pieces max. I grabbed a $6 can of spray paint at the hardware store and painted 4 mismatched frames all the same flat black, then laid the whole thing out on the floor first with paper cutouts of each frame so I could see the layout before making any holes. The paper cutout trick saved me because I moved stuff around like 8 times on the carpet before it felt right. I also hung them closer together than before, the old ones had huge gaps which was half the problem. Total cost was the paint plus a pack of hanging strips, so $12 out the door and the hallway looks totally different now. Has anyone else had a family member roast their decor and been better off for it? Curious what rule you landed on for your own walls.
