The deli counter worker told me to stop buying pre-shredded cheese and I'm mad they were right
Last month at the Grocery Outlet in Fresno, the lady behind the glass case watched me grab a bag of shreds and said, "That stuff is 40 percent potato starch, honey, just grate your own." I stood there for a sec, then bought a block of cheddar for $2.30 and a cheap hand grater for $4. My tacos taste way better now and the block lasts three meals instead of one since I don't dump a whole bag out of habit. Plus the pre-shredded stuff was always going bad in my fridge after a week while the block stays fine for two. Has anyone else switched to whole blocks and noticed their cheese bill actually went down, or did I just get lucky that week?
