Split a cheap pork shoulder wrong, got a soup instead of pulled pork
Tried to rush a $9 pork shoulder into the slow cooker at 6am before work last Tuesday and it turned into a weird shredded soup because I chopped it into chunks instead of leaving it whole. Anyone else accidentally make a stew they weren't planning on and just roll with it?
Chopping it into chunks isn't what made it soup, my friend. A pork shoulder in a slow cooker for 8 plus hours is gonna fall apart into shreds no matter what shape it starts in. What actually happened is you didn't give the meat a chance to brown first and you probably had way too much liquid in there. Next time sear the whole thing, keep the liquid to like half a cup, and let it sit on low all day. You'll get real pulled pork and not this weird pork soup situation.
