Used the same HDMI cable for 4 years before I noticed the little arrows on the connectors
So I'm hooking up a new TV in my apartment in Akron last Tuesday and my roommate points at the ends of my old HDMI cable and asks why the arrows are pointing the wrong way. I'd been plugging the same cable into my PS4 and monitor since 2020 without ever once looking at those little molded arrows. Turns out the source end goes into the console and the display end goes into the TV, and I had it backwards for basically the whole life of the cable. I felt like a total idiot, but then I started checking every cable in the house and half of them have directional markings I ignored. My USB-C to HDMI adapter also has an arrow and I've definitely had that one flipped at least once. Do directional markings actually matter on normal HDMI runs under 6 feet, or is this just something they print to mess with us?
Wait, those arrows actually mean something on HDMI cables? I always figured they were just molded there for looks or to show which end plugs in where, not that direction affects the signal.
