Went cheap on thermal paste for my 2012 build and the temps dropped 11 degrees
Last month I was messing with an old i5 3570k build I put together for $120 off Craigslist in Akron, and I had been using a tube of no-name paste I got for $3. I swapped in a $9 tube of Arctic MX-4 after hearing people argue about it online, expecting maybe 2 degrees of a change, and my idle temps went from 48C to 37C. Turns out the cheap stuff had dried out and was barely making contact, so I basically paid $3 to cook my own cpu for 6 months. What's the cheapest part you've ever replaced that made a way bigger difference than you thought?
