Vent: water heater went out on a Sunday and the plumber quoted me $850
Woke up last Sunday in my 1946 bungalow to a cold shower and a puddle in the utility closet. Plumber came out and quoted $850 to swap the 15 year old unit, so I watched two YouTube videos, grabbed a $12 wrench set from the garage, and did it myself for $340 in parts. Took me six hours, two trips to the hardware store, and one sliced thumb, but the new one fired up on the first try. Now I keep wondering what else around here I've been paying people to fix when I could just sweat a little. What's the last repair you tackled yourself that you thought was gonna be way over your head?
